I've been illustrating and designing for more than 20 years, both for agencies and self-employed. I didn't start my career as an illustrator; I graduated from university with a diploma in art and design and a degree in graphic design. I've had a varied career designing, illustrating and creating art. My beginnings as a designer mean that I have a good understanding of layout and how my illustrations can be applied as part of a complete design. It's all very well creating a beautiful piece of art but if it's not practical as soon as you want to add some text or use it in conjunction with other image elements then it's not fit for purpose!

Over the years I've specialised in working with the tourist industry, creating illustrations and art for all sorts of things from maps to periodicals, souvenirs to event programs. When I use one illustration as a substitute for ten photographs, clients are frequently delighted with how much space it saves in layouts and how much more visually exciting it can make a design.
